| We are constantly
developing new ideas for improving the surgical correction of
malformed facial bones. In the last decade, much enthusiasm has been
given to a technique called distraction osteogenesis. Distraction
osteogenesis allows the surgeon to slowly stretch a patient's bone
into the right shape and size. Current devices are effective, yet
bulky.
Working with industry leaders, Dr.
Stelnicki is developing several new absorbable distraction devices.
These generate new bone and then can be absorbed by the body instead
of requiring a second surgical removal. |
